Underground Mining Museum
A mine that produced sand used in glass making in the 1920s through 1940s, now open to the public in Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, with historical displays. (This museum was closed through much of the 1990s, but is scheduled to reopen in March 1999.)

University of California Richmond Field Station

Includes laboratories of Environmental Engineering & Health Science, Forest Products, Naval Architecture, Soils & Bituminous Materials, and Structural Research. This site (then part of the town of Stege) was once occupied by the California Cap Works, manufacturers of blasting caps. Records from 1901 show that this plant, like the Vigorite Powder Company at nearby Point Isabel, then employed only Chinese workers.
