In 1998, the East Bay Regional Park District restored
a large area of landfill southeast of
Arrowhead Marsh in

filled for airport warehouses that never were built. A lawsuit by the Audubon
Society and others eventually forced the airport to pay for this restoration
in mitigation of some of its damages to the environment. With no new name
assigned to this newly restored marsh in late 1998, Joseph Morlan
suggested using this name that Elsie
Roemer had applied to it before it was filled.
